PECR: Getting to Grips
This course is a whistle stop tour of everything someone needs to know about PECR compliance, from cookies to soft opt-ins.
Description
This course on the EU's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 is a whistlestop tour of everything someone needs to know about PECR compliance, from cookies to soft opt-ins. If you do any marketing by phone, email, text or fax, have cookies or a similar technology on your website, or compile any sort of telephone directory of contact numbers, then PECR applies to you. Remember that PECR can apply even if you aren't processing personal data. That means sending out marketing communications to the info@ email addresses where you don't know the recipient is covered by PECR, even though it wouldn't be covered by GDPR. Complying with PECR is everyone's responsibility. Given the close relationship between GDPR, PECR and the Data Protection Act, breaches of PECR could end up eliciting a fine under GDPR, or even constitute an offence under the DPA.
